According to CCMI (the Cashmere and Camel Hair Manufacturers Institute, Cashmere (Kashmir) is the name of a goat. These sweaters are made from the fine, soft undercoat or underlayer of the goat's hair. The hair fibers are collected during the spring molting season when the animals naturally shed their hairs. In some places the down is removed by hand and in others the animals are sheared.
Cashmere fibers are highly adaptable and are easiy constructed into thin or thick yarns and light or heavy-weight fabric. A high moisture content allows insulation properties to change with the relative humidity in the air.
